Bridging the Block
Completed while at buildingcommunityWORK
Bridging the Block was a series of temporary installations in downtown Dallas to bring attention to and address sidewalk accessibility. We hosted a number of community design sessions where we talked about the different kinds of obstacles people face when walking around downtown.
Together we developed icons of the different types of sidewalk fails someone might encounter and asked everyone to write poems about what it’s like to walk around downtown. We then designed and fabricated portable “bridges” that could be wheeled to these locations, creating an accessible route from City Hall to the local farmers market, which is currently impossible to navigate via sidewalk alone.
